WMRA is in trouble. It is evident when not enough cars show up to even run a trophy dash or a race has to be cancelled. There have been only 3 teams that have consistently shown up for races this year. They are Glen Seidelman, Dick Voss and Ben Petter. With over 30 cars registered with WMRA you have to wonder why only 3 teams show up. If WMRA is to survive those cars must leave the garage.
Tony Seidelman has done all he can. During the off-season everyone complained they wanted more money. Tony went where he had to, to get more money & still the cars did not show up.
BCRA appears to have hit it on the head. They are running combo cars giving them a choice of running asphalt or dirt. If WMRA went the way of BCRA they could run co-sanctioned races with the dirt organizations. NWWT midgets & NOMA have been fielding between 14-15 cars per race. And the Ford Focus Series out of Elma has been fielding 12-15 cars per race. Several WMRA drivers have already switched to dirt and are doing quite well. These are Doug Kammerzell, Evan Margeson, Dallas Melby, Mitch Hoffses, & Mark Atkinson. And then there are the WMRA drivers who have run asphalt cars on dirt (Tony Seideman,Nick Seidelman, Pat Bliss &Tony Berry) and done quite well. Several other drivers are rumored to be looking at switching to dirt.
Realistically the only way I see to get WMRA back on its feet is to switch to combo cars and run co-sanctioned races with the dirt organizations. Maybe this will encourage all those garaged cars to come out again. If the cars still don't come out they can wait 5-10 years and then find a vintage organization to run with.
