WMRA car owners are busy, really busy, preparing for the 2013 season, which will commence with the opener at Monroe on April 27. It appears that we should see a raise in car count at most, if not all of our races. From the rumor mill, conversations, and nosing around this is the way it looks right now.
Glen Seidelman has been working hard on his #4 Hawk/Gaerte with Kris McKenzie behind the wheel and hopes to be a factor in all of the races again, this year. He has added his original Hawk to his stable and has two cars to run. As of now he is not sure when he can have the second car out, but it will not be ready for the opener. That car will be numbered 2 and is his original WMRA midget, recently owned by Dave Hoene (#24) driver ?.
Karl Hoffses (#5) has several options he is considering, as Mitch has a very good sprint car lined up to drive, so we would like to see them as part of our field of cars as often as it can be scheduled, and hope Mitch has a lot of luck every time out.
Good old standby Bobby Bird will run with his #7 car, a welcome sight at any race WMRA sponsors. We think he probably has the car ready to race right now. He’s not just a fun guy, but a first class racer too!
Brian Globe has made big changes; he went to California and procured a newer Beast chassis, in addition an Esslinger motor has been purchased, so here’s another race team ready to win. We all remember Troy’s drive to the WMRA Championship last season! As of now Brian plans to run his #11 Focus car at Agassiz only, and has no plans to race the #9 which he bought from the Melby family some years ago. Incidentally, this car is for sale, and it’s ready to go!
Steve Hughes purchased Stuart Birkinbine’s car, less motor, and though he has been working valiantly to run the opening race, but is waiting for parts and chances are slim he will be able to make that race.
Dave Pirie will run the black #39 again in 2013, but perhaps on a more limited schedule. James, his son, and the driver is coming on strong and won the 2012 Agassiz Championship as well as “Rookie of the Year” in WMRA! Great job James! Dave and James,
Aaron Willison are now the proud owners of the ex-Forler Beast and plan to run both WMRA and the Agassiz Midget cubs this coming season.
Allen Dixon again plans to field the 43 and 44 cars with Mark Seidelman and Kevin Koepke handling the driving chores. The end of last season Kevin had most of the [problems ironed out with the 44 car and ran some very strong and competitive races. Mark was not as fortunate and there were still a few problems that needed attention with the #43 Autocraft/Gaerte. It will be good to see Mark on the track with all the problems solved, believe me, he’s trying!
Ready? Color me Dick Voss, ready to fire up and go out for hot laps - NOW! Dick has made many improvements over the winter and the car should be running right with the best of the Focus midgets. Whitney Nolan from Wenatchee will be the driver, this should be a great combination and they may surprise a few people!
Even though he’d like to be able to upgrade to a newer chassis, Steve Hora plans to be out there and in the middle of the mix. He gets all there is to get out of his 1995 Ellis/Focus and is a driver who is competitive every lap. Many of you will recall that he was the 2011 Agassiz Champion.
Evan and Tom Margeson may run a very limited schedule with WMRA this coming season as they have commitments to uphold in sprint cars. But when Even’s there, he’s the driver to beat. He won a convincing Championship in 2007.
Billy Bell is purchasing the Globe #55 Beast and we hope for his support at both the WMRA and Agassiz races. Billy is a fun guy, hard and clean driver and always welcome at the race track. If you want competition, Billy will give it to you, another of the fine drivers we see from British Columbia.
Eric Young is working on his pavement car, which is the ex-Travis Johnson midget. Eric is an experienced steady pavement driver and with this ride we expect to see some good racing from him. Eric has not run with WMRA on the pavement since he wheeled the Voss #45 in 2004. A big welcome back Eric! He has reserved the # 68 for his midget.
From way up north, Merritt, British Columbia, comes AL Goldie, a guy who loves racing and last year showed he was capable of running very competitively with any club in his #73 XXX/Focus car. He had a long tow to every race, and was there when it counted.
Jeremiah Franklin will have a busy time for sure as he plans to race his Beast/Focus #77 as well as being crew chief for his son in quarter midgets. Jeremiah has been busy toiling away on the #77 this winter and hopes to do better than lead 29 laps of a 30 lap main event before the season is over. He has shown he has the talent, and with a little bit of luck the equipment to bring home that victory.
Back in North Bend, Washington, WMRA President Rodney Churchill has two midgets sitting in the garage. Glen Seidelman put a roller together for Rod, which will not be ready for the opener, but when it does come out, watch for the #72. The #79 midget that was completely destroyed last season, will be replaced with a Stewart/Nissan and Justin Cagle of Ephrata is tagged to be the driver.
Two familiar faces will return. Randy Manners and Tony Seidelman have once again teamed up and hope to see the #84 car in the winner’s circle during the 2013 racing. This is the same car they campaigned in years past with the #44.
Another nice surprise, Brad Curtis will return with the family #91, though they plan to run a very limited schedule as the car is for sale. This car and this driver are truly capable of a win any time they appear at the track!
Tom Maples has not finalized all of his plans as yet but at present hopes to make a lot of the races with the potent Beast/EdPinkFord, and we all know what that car can do, it was our 2011 Championship midget!
Another new face WMRA hopes to see often is Kale Woodske, he will drive for his Dad Paul in the 00 car which is the ex-Urquhart Beast/Focus. With the experience he has behind him, we wonder if he may think about going for “Rookie of the Year”?
A good rumor is that we may see Keith Davidson from British Columbia competing again, hope so Keith, come on and join the fun! Another welcome rumor is that he may field a second car. We’re hoping you and the blue #52 can make it Keith, as well as any other car you choose to run!
